چکیده

With the increased complexity and uncertainty in business operations, adaptive and collaborative business processes and exception management (EM) are gaining attention. In the logistics industry now, logistics exceptions are managed using human resources together with the traditional workflow technology-based supply-chain management or other logistics tools. The traditional approach models and manages business processes and anticipated exceptions based on predefined logical procedures of activities from a centralized perspective that suffers from inadequate decision support for flexibility and adaptability in logistics EM. These procedures have limited utility when monitoring logistics activities in real-time to detect and resolve the exceptions. To mitigate these problems, a real-time logistics EM decision model is presented in this research by following a design science research approach. The proposed decision model is informed by a comprehensive logistics exception analysis, a real-time business activity monitoring architecture, Simon's decision-making process model, and the Cynefin sense-making framework. The proposed decision model is the major contribution of this research, which adds knowledge to the decision science research theory and practice. In addition, a summarized logistics exception analysis provides researchers with a comprehensive representation of the logistics exceptions and their handling method. The proposed decision model and logistics exception analysis provide researchers with a sound basis for formal study. It leads to the analysis, design and development of a logistics EM decision support system. It also provides practitioners with a means of developing logistics exception handling decision making strategies and solutions.

A Model-Driven Decision Support System for Software Cost Estimation (Case Study: Projects in NASA60 Dataset)

Estimating the costs of software development is one of the most important activities in software project management. Inaccuracies in such estimates may cause irreparable loss. A low estimate of the cost of projects will result in failure on delivery on time and indicates the inefficiency of the software development team. On the other hand, high estimates of resources and costs for a project wil...

An artificial intelligence model based on LS-SVM for third-party logistics provider ‎selection

The use of third-party logistics (3PL) providers is regarded as new strategy in logistics management. The relationships by considering 3PL are sometimes more complicated than any classical logistics supplier relationships. These relationships have taken into account as a well-known way to highlight organizations' flexibilities to regard rapidly uncertain market conditions, follow core competenc...

Comprehensive Decision Modeling of Reverse Logistics System: A Multi-criteria Decision Making Model by using Hybrid Evidential Reasoning Approach and TOPSIS (TECHNICAL NOTE)

In the last two decades, product recovery systems have received increasing attention due to several reasons such as new governmental regulations and economic advantages. One of the most important activities of these systems is to assign returned products to suitable reverse manufacturing alternatives. Uncertainty of returned products in terms of quantity, quality, and time complicates the decis...

Examining Real-Time Scheduling Exceptions in Complex Planning Domains using Decision Support Systems

Decision support systems are intended to assist human decision makers. In complex, dynamic domains a proper task apportionment between the computer and the human decision maker largely dictates system success. Task apportionment is even more critical when exceptions are introduced into the system. We examine an airbase logistics scheduling and planning system, a complex and dynamic application ...
